Many of our attendees have gone on to sell their short fiction to magazines and anthologies and also to publish their first books.
After many requests, we have decided to offer our Boot Camp to High School Students who are interested in pursuing a career as a writer of fiction—or wish to vastly improve their writing skills in preparation for college.
DATES: Wednesday, August 5th thru Friday, August 7th, 2009
This is a Day Camp which ends at 5:00 pm each day.
It is a three-day event which will comprise:
- Panel Discussion plus Q&A
- Round table critiques (4 sessions )
- Analysis by the instructors
- Readings of student fiction
- A special assignment/exercise
Students will become familiar with the basic elements of writing fiction—
- Plot
- Character
- Dialogue
- Grammar/Style
Students will learn how to finish their manuscript and have it ready for submission to the market place. In addition, they will receive a general understanding of the state of modern publishing—market analysis, the real deal on editors and agents, the characteristics of genre versus literary fiction, and the variety of career possibilities.
Our Boot Camp is successful because students learn the critical process.
