The sixth title in our acclaimed Little Books Series V
From the editor's Introduction:
Middleton’s career barely spanned the first decade of the 20th century. He was born, educated and based in, or around, London for most of his life until retreating to Belgium for his final months of his short life.
Best known for his short fiction, Richard Middleton revealed to colleagues that his greatest passion was for writing verse, although The Cambridge History of English and American Literature considered him a “lesser poet.” For this project we did not delve into his poetry works.
To support his writing dream, Middleton worked as book reviewer for Lord Alfred Douglas’ The Academy and as a sub-editor for Edward Jepson at Vanity Fair.
Not all of Middleton’s short stories fall into the ghost genre and, in fact, only represent a minority of his oeuvre. Yet, “The Ghost Ship” remains his most published work as it is often included in anthologies covering the specter genre.
